James Meadway is the Director of the Progressive Economy Forum. He has previously been Chief Economist at the NEF (New Economics Foundation), an advisor to HM Treasury and also economic advisor to former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer John McDonnell MP. 

He is currently writing a book on the British economy after the 2008 crisis and the COVID pandemic, and appears regularly on broadcast media as a commentator on UK politics. James's work focuses on developing viable alternatives to neoliberalism, such as the Preston Model and other forms of democratic ownership and ecological economies. His work also examines the impacts of automation and the digital economy on work and economic futures.

In this UCLan's ICSC webinar, he presents his ideas and answer questions on what post-COVID crisis economies might look like, and how more socially and environmentally just alternatives may emerge.
